Oh his contract is £10 Million over 4 Years.

He is definately more qualified to do it than Harry Redknapp. Gonna sound biased cause im a Yid but i dont care.

He managed 2 or 3 international teams before, he's won more titles than redknapp, one of the being with AC milan so I think its a good choice.

Also the FA are proberly to cheap to buy out Harry's clause and Hodgson is out of contract at the end of the season so it makes more sense TBH

Who in the right mind takes an inertnational job month or so away from a Major Championships.

Need to look at the FA with Capello there you were in with a shout at the Euros now no chance. But they did the dirty on him by dropping Tery without soeaking to the actual MANAGER

I think its a poor move on the FA's part, I dont think he will be universally popular with the players, he has had a bit of success with other teams most notably winning Serie A with INTER but I just dont see him as England manager material

I think he will fail like he did at liverpool, only time will tell, I hope I am wrong though.

Being Irish and despising every english sports team... I could not be happier with this choice

I feel sorry for Hodgson as hes a fantastic manager and hes just going to get so much shit due to fact the papers have been drumming harrys name for so long.

Tbh if Hodgson can kerb englands players egos I think he could do a good job, like Capello he may bring a more composed england.
As much as many england supporters didnt like the slower and composed england by far we got better results than we would have with the old england panic attacking.

Harry isnt the best tactically imo, Hodgson is much better but Harry knows how to work with star players better and how to bend them to his will.
If we want an englishman then tbh the best 2 qualified are harry and roy and from what I heard Spurs wanted 10million in compensation which is extortinate imo.

But I agree that Hodgson has never done it big time yet! He has won many titles in Scandanivia, he brought Inter Milan from collapse and made them a top 3 side again and took them to a final. He did amazing stuff at fulham and took them to 6th place and the finals of euro final which they lost unluckily to athletic madrid.
But his 1 big chance was with Liverpool and he messed it up and due to that he lost a lot of respect. I do feel for him though he joined Liverpool at the worst possible time, he joined when the board had no money, he came when Dalglish had said he was interested in the job which meant the fans were straight away against him and in some respects the players as well. Plus Mascherano who had been a huge presence in the midfield left, plus Torres and others were always in headlines about leaving. Any manager taking over was going to struggle big time.

I say give him a chance.
But it is a shame that Harry never got a chance, I always felt he deserved it next.

Think Harry would have been the ideal man for the job, but Hodgson is a good, solid manager. He done really good things with Fulham. He had West Brom playing good football.

I'm just glad England have gone with an English manager as I feel that's how international teams should be.

Interesting to see the media's response should England not have the best of campaigns in Euro 2012, it'll most likely be full of speculation on what Harry would have done differently!

I'm happy that we've appointed someone with the experience & proven track record that Roy Hodgson has on his CV.

Hodgson is just another yes man for the FA, he will pick the same 11 players that every other manager picks,
Then when they fail badly he(Hodgson) will take the blame,

if he picks the same players and does nothing he will be slatted for picking the same old team,

But If he picked different/new faces and they do badly he will be slatted for not picking the usual fan/media favourites,

He's fighting a losing battle from the word GO!

It's a tainted job.

England could have Alex ferguson as manager with Arsene wenger and pep gaurdiola as his assistants and England would still fail,

They are all club players not really bothered about there country,

Which is why my money ( may take some abuse for this but) is on Germany.

I really cant see past Spain at the moment, the way they play football is stunning, I think the only team that comes remotely close to them on a technical level is Holland, the thing with them tho is that they are normally at each others throats before a big tournament. My moneys on Spain but would love to see the Dutch win it, I think if England get out their group then it should be considered a successful tournament.

I do believe though that the biggest problem for england is the media

They big them up so much that it gets the nation hyped up and really expecting more than they can deliver,
But then rubbish them when they don't do it,
Media need to lay off and let Hodgson diet on with it.

Everyone think that because the English premier league is the best in the world that the players should be awesome and make a world beating team,

But forget the fact that some or even most of the best foreign players in Europe play in the prem also.
I would love to see England lift a trophy but doubt I will ever see it unless they can sort out a uk cup between Ireland, Scotland and Wales, but even then we would probably struggle lol

I think Enland will do well, France are the only hard one in our group, Ukraine and Sweden are a piece of piss
